Smart Home Control Panel Mold
OEM/ODM injection mold development case for a thin-wall, high-gloss smart home control panel enclosure. The reference project demonstrates capabilities in flatness control, gate-mark optimization, NAK80 tooling, precision mold development and trial validation for appearance-critical smart-home components.
1. Project Overview
This project demonstrates our OEM/ODM mold-development capabilities for smart home control panels and wall-mounted control devices. The reference project involved the development of a thin-wall, high-gloss injection mold for an 86 × 86 × 12 mm control-panel enclosure, with particular attention to surface flatness, gate-mark control and appearance consistency.
Rather than offering a fixed off-the-shelf mold, we develop tooling according to each client’s product design, structural requirements, material selection, surface finish and production targets.
2. Thin-Wall Mold Development
• Thin-Wall Injection Design: Mold structure and molding parameters are developed around the dimensional and wall-thickness requirements of the customer’s enclosure.
• Flatness Control: Particular attention is given to deformation and surface flatness, which are important for wall-mounted control panels and other visually exposed components.
• Gate-Mark Control: Gate location and molding conditions are evaluated to minimize visible gate marks on appearance-critical surfaces.
• High-Gloss Surface Development: Tooling and surface treatment are developed to achieve the required high-gloss appearance for premium smart-home products.
• NAK80 Tool Steel: The reference project used NAK80 tool steel to support the required surface finish and production requirements.
3. Tooling & Validation Process
• Structural Review: Customer product data is reviewed for moldability, wall thickness, assembly features and appearance requirements before tooling development.
• Mold Design: Cavity layout, gating, parting lines and other tooling details are developed according to the approved product structure.
• Precision Machining: Mold components are manufactured according to the finalized tooling design and dimensional requirements.
• Trial Molding: Initial samples are produced to evaluate molding quality, dimensions, surface appearance and structural fit.
• Sample Validation: Findings from trial molding can be used for mold adjustment and subsequent validation before volume-production approval.
4. Reference Project Specifications
• 1+2 Cavity Configuration: The demonstrated project used a 1+2 cavity mold configuration based on its component and production requirements.
• 86 × 86 × 12 mm Part Size: Reference dimensions for the smart home control-panel component developed in this case.
• High-Gloss Finish: Appearance requirements focused on a smooth, high-gloss exterior surface.
• ≥400,000-Shot Mold Life: The reference tooling was specified for a mold life of at least 400,000 shots under appropriate production and maintenance conditions.
• Batch Consistency: Tooling development focused on maintaining dimensional and appearance consistency across volume-production runs.
5. OEM/ODM Development Capability
• Project-Based Customization: Mold structure, steel selection, cavity configuration and surface finish can be developed according to individual customer requirements.
• Appearance-Critical Components: Suitable development capability for smart-home products where flatness, surface finish and visible molding marks require tighter control.
• Prototype-to-Production Support: Supports the transition from product data and mold design through trial samples and production validation.
• Custom Tooling Development: New molds are developed around the customer’s specific product rather than supplying a standardized existing mold.
