Appliance Control Cover Mold
OEM/ODM injection mold development case for a mirror-finish appliance control cover. The reference project demonstrates capabilities in S136 mirror-finish tooling, sink-mark and weld-line control, appearance validation and high-gloss injection molding for volume production of appliance exterior components.
1. Project Overview
This OEM/ODM project demonstrates the development of a mirror-finish injection mold for appearance-critical appliance control covers. The reference project involved a 160 × 70 × 18 mm component, a 1+1 cavity configuration and S136 tool steel, with particular attention to sink-mark control, weld-line management and high-gloss surface quality. The tooling was developed to support consistent volume production of visible appliance exterior components.
2. Mirror-Finish Mold Development
• Mirror-Finish Tooling: Mold surface preparation and machining are developed around the high-gloss appearance requirements of the control cover.
• S136 Tool Steel: The reference project used S136 tool steel for the mirror-finish mold core and appearance-focused molding requirements.
• 1+1 Cavity Configuration: The demonstrated tooling used a 1+1 cavity arrangement based on the component structure and production requirements.
• Appearance Surface Control: Tooling development focuses on visible surfaces where gloss uniformity and molding marks directly affect finished-part appearance.
• Precision Mold Machining: Mold components are machined according to the approved product geometry, dimensional requirements and surface specifications.
3. Sink Mark & Weld Line Control
• Sink-Mark Management: Product structure and molding conditions are evaluated to reduce visible sink marks around ribs, bosses and other thickness-transition areas.
• Weld-Line Control: Gate position and filling behavior are considered to manage weld lines on appearance-critical surfaces.
• Wall-Thickness Evaluation: Structural review helps identify thickness transitions that may influence shrinkage and surface quality.
• Gate Position Optimization: Gate layout is developed according to filling requirements and the visual priorities of the molded component.
• Surface Consistency: Mold development focuses on maintaining consistent appearance across repeated production cycles.
4. Trial Mold & Appearance Validation
• Trial Molding: Initial samples are produced to evaluate filling, dimensions, surface gloss and visible molding defects.
• Appearance Inspection: Trial parts can be reviewed for sink marks, weld lines, gloss uniformity and other appearance-related characteristics.
• Dimensional Verification: Critical dimensions and assembly interfaces are checked against the approved product requirements.
• Mold Optimization: Trial results can be used to refine tooling and molding conditions before volume-production approval.
• Reference Mold Life: The demonstrated mold was specified for ≥450,000 shots under appropriate production and maintenance conditions.
5. OEM/ODM Development Capability
• Appearance-Critical Appliance Parts: Supports mold development for visible components where surface finish and cosmetic consistency are key requirements.
• Project-Based Customization: Mold structure, steel selection, cavity configuration and surface requirements are developed according to each client’s product.
• Multiple Appliance Applications: The development approach can be applied to control covers, washing-machine panels, microwave control panels and similar exterior components.
• Development-to-Production Support: Covers structural review, mold engineering, machining, trial molding and production validation for customized appliance components.
